Overview

Process Lasso is a Windows utility for automating how applications use system resources and power settings. It is best for people who want process rules to run consistently in the background, rather than just a view of what is running. Its controls are unusually broad for that job, but several important capabilities are only available on a trial basis in the free plan.

Key features

Persistent process controls

ProBalance adjusts running programs’ priorities during high CPU loads to help keep the system responsive. You can also save CPU affinities, CPU sets and priorities so they apply when a process launches, then create rules that change those settings or trigger actions based on process thresholds or other criteria. That makes Process Lasso a strong fit for repeatable tuning; it is more complexity than users who only need to inspect processes require.

CPU Limiter, Instance Balancer and Group Extender broaden its algorithm set. The catch is that CPU Limiter, Instance Balancer, Process Watchdog, power plan automation and several other features are trial-only in Free. Users who depend on those controls should treat Pro as the practical long-term option, not assume the free plan includes them indefinitely.

Power, logging and background operation

Rules can switch power plans when selected processes run or when the system is idle. Keep Awake can prevent sleep for a set period or while chosen processes are active. Process Lasso can also log process launches and other selected system activity, which is useful when a record of system behavior matters.

The separate Process Governor service enforces rules and algorithms without requiring the graphical interface to remain open. That suits unattended or routine operation, though users who only want a conventional task manager may not benefit from a service running in the background.

Pricing

Process Lasso has a free plan that most users may use indefinitely, but some features are limited by a trial period. Commercial use requires purchase within 30 days of deployment. That makes Free suitable for noncommercial use that does not rely on the trial-limited features, but less suitable for business deployment or ongoing use of the full control set.

Single PC Monthly: 4.95 USD per month, a recurring subscription cancellable at any time for one PC.
Single PC Annual: 24.95 USD per year, a recurring subscription cancellable at any time for one PC. Its lower total than twelve monthly payments makes it the more economical subscription for a single PC if you are comfortable paying annually.
Single PC Lifetime: 39.95 USD per month for one PC. The listed term is monthly, so it does not read as a one-time lifetime purchase.
Entire Home Monthly: 5.95 USD per month, a recurring subscription cancellable at any time for five PCs.
Entire Home Annual: 36.95 USD per year, a recurring subscription cancellable at any time for five PCs.
Entire Home Lifetime: 59.95 USD per month for five PCs; like the single-PC lifetime plan, the listed term is monthly.

The separate Pro plan options include single-PC monthly, annual and one-time lifetime billing, plus monthly and lifetime options for up to five PCs with the same owner for noncommercial use. The one-time lifetime options include all minor and major updates in perpetuity. These Pro options are shown with custom pricing; prices may not include taxes. Premium support is a Pro feature, and support is offered by email.

Platforms

Process Lasso supports Windows 7–11 and Windows Server 2012–2025. Its Windows-only scope is a clear boundary for anyone managing mixed-platform systems; it is not a cross-platform process-control choice.

Who it's for

Choose Process Lasso if you want Windows process priorities, affinities, power behavior and selected actions governed by persistent rules, especially when those rules should keep running without the interface open. It is less compelling if you only need monitoring, want native controls on another operating system, or need unrestricted access to Pro features without a paid plan.

Pros and cons

Pros: Persistent CPU settings and threshold-based rules make recurring process tuning repeatable.
Pros: The Process Governor service can enforce rules while the graphical interface is closed.
Pros: Power-plan triggers, Keep Awake and activity logging extend control beyond process priority alone.
Cons: Several useful features, including power plan automation and CPU Limiter, are trial-only in Free.
Cons: Windows support excludes users seeking process control across macOS or Linux.
Cons: The listed lifetime plans show monthly prices, unlike the separate Pro lifetime options described as one-time payments.

Alternatives

For a broader set of platform options, Glances is a free, open-source system monitoring tool for Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, web, API and self-hosted use; optional features require extra dependencies. Choose it when cross-platform monitoring matters more than Process Lasso’s process rules and automation.

PM2 is a free process manager with a real-time web interface and also offers a Plus plan at 79.00 USD per month. It is an alternative to consider when a process manager with web monitoring is the priority.

For Windows monitoring, Ambih Monitor offers live monitoring and core features free, with its free plan limited to five-session history per project; Pro is 10.00 USD per month, billed annually, for unlimited session history. Pick it when monitoring history is more relevant than persistent process controls.

AppControl is free to download and use on Windows, with no email or registration required; optional premium features may be introduced in the future.

bottom (btm) is a free process monitor for Windows, Linux and macOS.

ManageEngine Free Process Manager is free in perpetuity and offers a Windows EXE 32-bit download.

iotop is a free Linux option that requires root access.

Monit is free, open-source software for Linux, macOS and self-hosted use under the GNU Affero General Public License.

Verdict

Process Lasso is the right choice for Windows users who need persistent, rule-driven control over process behavior and power settings, with a background service to keep those rules active. Its strongest reason to choose is that breadth of automation; its strongest reason to look elsewhere is the trial-limited Free feature set, or the Windows-only focus.
