Overview

Courses cover math, coding, data science, science, technology, and AI.

Koji, the digital tutor built into most courses, guides learners through reasoning step by step. Free users receive only a limited preview; Premium unlocks full access. Brilliant is not a credential pathway: it offers no completion certificates or degree programs.

Key features

Practice and tutoring

Free accounts can access all courses, but may complete only two lessons or practice sets per day and must follow the sequence. That is enough to sample subjects or keep up a brief routine, but it can break momentum for learners who want to work through a topic in one sitting. Premium removes the daily limit, allows jumping to any lesson, removes ads, and includes full Koji access—useful for learners who want control over pace and tutoring throughout a course.

Educator tools

Eligible K–12 teachers and their students may receive free Premium access through Brilliant for Educators, subject to application review. Teachers can sync rosters with Google Classroom and share lesson links through Google Classroom or another learning management system. Progress reports track lesson completion, time spent, course progress, and completion dates. They do not report answer-level correctness or formal grades, so this is a progress-monitoring aid rather than a grading system.

For student privacy, Brilliant for Educators says it complies with COPPA, FERPA, and GDPR, and does not sell student data or use it for marketing. Brilliant also describes a written information security program with organizational, technical, and administrative safeguards, while cautioning that internet transmissions cannot be guaranteed completely secure.

Pricing

Brilliant uses a freemium subscription model. Free costs 0.00 USD per free and includes access to all courses, up to two lessons or practice sets per day, occasional ads, and a limited Koji preview. It is the sensible starting point for casual exploration, but the cap and sequential access make it restrictive for intensive study.

Individual Premium (annual) costs 20.00 USD per year, billed as one $20 payment, and renews annually; it can be canceled anytime. It includes unlimited access to all courses, no ads, and one subscription across devices. This is the fit for an individual who wants fewer interruptions and unrestricted progress. Family Premium (annual) costs 40.00 USD per year, billed as one $40 payment, renews annually, and can be canceled anytime. It includes six seats, unlimited access to all courses, and no ads, making it the relevant option for a household needing multiple accounts.

Group Annual has custom pricing, includes three seats, and supports groups of 3 to 50 people; each additional seat costs $10.10/month. It is aimed at groups that need shared access, though the custom base price means it is harder to compare directly with individual and family plans. Brilliant also offers enterprise plans.

Platforms

Brilliant is available on Android, iOS, and the web. An internet connection is required, and lessons cannot be downloaded for offline use. That makes it a poor choice for commutes or study settings with unreliable connectivity. Account, subscription, and technical support requests go to support@brilliant.org, with replies within 48 hours.

Who it's for

Brilliant suits self-directed learners who want to practice STEM concepts with visual models, immediate feedback, and guided reasoning. The free tier is appropriate for light exploration; Premium is better for regular learners who need unlimited lessons or full Koji access. Educators may find the classroom sharing and progress reports useful, but not if they need answer-level assessment or formal grades.

Pros and cons

Strength: Practice-centered courses. Problems, visual models, and immediate feedback make active learning the service's central format across several STEM fields.
Strength: Koji guidance. Step-by-step reasoning support is built into most courses, with full access included in Premium.
Strength: Educator access and sharing. Eligible K–12 teachers and students may qualify for free Premium, and teachers can sync rosters or share lessons through classroom tools.
Limitation: Free-plan pace. Two lessons or practice sets per day, in sequence, can constrain learners who want to make faster progress.
Limitation: No offline study or credentials. Internet access is required, lessons cannot be downloaded, and courses do not lead to certificates or degrees.
Limitation: Educator reports stop short of assessment. Reports track activity and progress, not correctness or grades.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, browse Math Learning Apps, MOOC Platforms, or Learning Gamification Software.

MobyMax is another freemium option with a free educator version and access across Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows. Consider it if that wider platform coverage or educator-focused free tier is a closer fit.

Kaer Math has a free plan covering every grade and topic, with five lives per day, an adaptive path, hints, and a daily challenge. Choose it if those game-like progression features are more important than Brilliant's course-led approach.

GeoGebra is another freemium option for readers comparing math software.

Prodigy Math offers a free plan and paid Core and Plus options. It is another option to consider when comparing math learning services.
