Overview

Boomerang is an email productivity service for people who want better control of sending, follow-up, and inbox timing, with meeting scheduling and writing guidance alongside those tools. It is best suited to Gmail users who regularly coordinate meetings or track replies; its narrow free allowance and annual-billed entry price make it less compelling for occasional use.

Key features

Email timing and follow-up

Send Later schedules delivery, while snoozing and reminders bring messages back when they need attention. Inbox Pause holds new messages until the user is ready and can be scheduled to activate automatically. That covers both outgoing and incoming email, but Basic’s 10 message credits per month are too restrictive for regular use.

Meetings and writing

Magic Live Calendar offers bookable schedules, suggested times, free/busy sharing, and team scheduling. Team scheduling connects with Zoom and Google Meet and supports multiple calendars, which makes Boomerang more useful for people coordinating work than for someone who only needs a send-later button.

Respondable uses AI to give real-time guidance on email effectiveness and tone. Pro adds Advanced Respondable, making that tier the relevant choice for users who want the more advanced writing feature rather than the basic service.

Tracking and data handling

Boomerang supports open, reply, and click tracking, real-time alerts, and CRM synchronization. Premium adds Track by Default and Salesforce/CRM Integration, a stronger fit for teams that want tracking built into their workflow. Baydin says it completes SOC 2 Type II audits annually; Boomerang says it stores message headers to identify messages for sending or returning, not message bodies. Gmail sign-in relies on Google OAuth 2.0, and the service says it does not access user passwords.

Pricing

Basic is free and includes 10 message credits per month, Gmail/G Suite, Send Later, and Boomerang Reminders. It is enough for light use, but the quota makes it a poor ongoing choice for people who schedule or manage messages often.

Personal costs 4.98 USD per month, billed annually. It raises the allowance to unlimited message credits and includes Gmail, iPhone and Android apps, and Notes. This is the least expensive paid tier and the practical step up for an individual who needs regular email timing tools and mobile access.

Pro costs 14.98 USD per month, billed annually. It includes unlimited message credits, Gmail/G Suite, Advanced Respondable, Advanced Inbox Pause, and Recurring Messages. Choose it for advanced writing and inbox controls; Personal is cheaper if those additions are not needed.

Premium costs 49.98 USD per month, billed annually. It adds Track by Default, Premium Support, and Salesforce/CRM Integration to unlimited credits and Gmail/G Suite. Its higher price is most defensible for users who need CRM integration or default tracking, not simply unlimited scheduling.

Paid plans have a 30-day trial. The paid starting price is 4.98 USD per user per month with annual billing, so it is not a month-to-month entry price.

Platforms

Boomerang is offered for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and as a browser extension. Boomerang for Gmail supports Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera. Mobile apps are included in paid plans starting with Personal. Email-client support includes Gmail and Outlook, though the plan features identify Gmail or Gmail/G Suite.

Who it's for

Boomerang for Teams is presented for organizations, with use cases in sales, customer success, recruiting, and education. Teams that schedule across multiple calendars or rely on Zoom or Google Meet have a reason to consider it; users seeking only occasional email reminders may find the Basic cap or paid annual commitment hard to justify. Technical support is available by email, while Teams includes priority email support.

Pros and cons

Pros: Send scheduling, snoozing, reminders, and Inbox Pause address several common inbox timing needs in one service.
Pros: Bookable schedules, suggested meeting times, free/busy sharing, and multi-calendar team scheduling make it useful for meeting coordination.
Pros: Open, reply, and click tracking plus real-time alerts and CRM synchronization support follow-up workflows.
Cons: Basic’s 10 monthly message credits limit its usefulness beyond occasional use.
Cons: The lowest paid price is tied to annual billing, and mobile apps begin with Personal rather than Basic.
Cons: Salesforce/CRM integration and Track by Default require the substantially more expensive Premium tier.

Alternatives

Mailbutler Smart Assistant is another freemium option with a free Starter plan, free trial, and support across Android, browser extension, iOS, Linux, macOS, web, and Windows. Mailsuite suits readers comparing email tracking plans: its Mailtrack tier is 6.99 USD per month and includes unlimited tracked emails, seven days of tracking history, 10 emails with link tracking, and 100 campaign emails.

Streak is worth considering for readers who want a free mail-merge allowance of 50 sends per day, with a Pro plan at 59.00 USD per month billed monthly. RevenueGrid is a paid alternative with a 30.00 USD per user/month Activity Capture 360 plan that includes automated activity capture and real-time Salesforce integration.

Salesloft offers paid Advanced and Elite packages with custom pricing. Mailcastr and Mail Track for Gmail are freemium alternatives. Pointofmail is a paid option with a free trial.

For readers focused specifically on sales email tracking, Sales Email Tracking Software is a relevant list to compare; Email Tracking Software provides a broader tracking comparison.

Verdict

Boomerang is a strong fit for Gmail users who need dependable message timing, follow-up, and meeting coordination in one service, especially when team scheduling or tracking is part of the job. The main reason to choose it is that breadth; look elsewhere if a small free allowance or annual billing makes it hard to commit, or if CRM-oriented tools are needed but Premium is beyond budget.
