Overview

Bookamat is studio-management software for boutique fitness businesses and independent teachers. It is best suited to operators who want scheduling, client payments and memberships managed together, rather than a general-purpose business suite. Its strongest case is the breadth of studio tools paired with unlimited venues; its main trade-off is pricing tied to active clients, with SMS potentially costing extra.

Key features

Scheduling and attendance

Bookamat handles online and desk bookings, calendar scheduling, recurring classes, attendance, instructor and room scheduling, capacity rules and booking policies. Waitlists, QR check-in and automated reminders round out the class-management tools. This makes it a practical fit for studios coordinating a busy timetable, though the feature set is focused on studio operations rather than broader business management.

Payments and member sales

Online payments run through Stripe in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Canada, Square in Australia, or Paystack in South Africa. Memberships, class packs, credits, coupons, private sessions and gift cards support different ways to sell access; billing and invoicing help manage the transactions that follow. Payment-provider coverage is regional, so studios elsewhere should confirm that these options suit their business.

Client access and integrations

Clients can book, pay and reschedule in a mobile browser. Bookamat is a Progressive Web App that can be installed on a phone or desktop home screen, offering convenient access without requiring a dedicated native client app. Google Calendar and Mailchimp sync, along with Zoom and Google Meet links for online and hybrid classes, connect the studio workflow to familiar tools.

Multi-location, support and safeguards

Unlimited venues on one subscription and reporting across the business make Bookamat particularly appealing to operators with more than one location. The company offers personal email support from its product builders, with priority support on Team and Growth, and migration help that can include importing a client list; migration timing depends on the data and studio setup.

Bookamat describes safeguards including encryption in transit, access controls, tenant data separation, backups, audit logs and secure development practices. Its privacy policy says it does not sell personal information. These are useful assurances for businesses handling client records, though they do not replace a studio’s own privacy and security responsibilities.

Pricing

Bookamat is freemium, with a 14-day trial and a Free option after the trial for studios with 10 or fewer active clients. Pricing counts clients with at least one booking during the subscription month, so inactive clients do not count. SMS may be charged separately.

Free access: 0.00 USD per free. It includes core studio-management features and suits a small studio with 10 or fewer active clients. Usage-based SMS may cost extra, and studios above the active-client cap need a paid plan.
Solo: 3.50 USD per month, billed USD $3.5 /active client after your first 10, up to $49/month. It covers up to 2 staff members, core features, all integrations and unlimited locations. Its capped pricing can suit a small team whose active roster grows, but it is limited to two staff members.
Team: 68.60 USD per month, billed USD $68.60 /month at 35 active clients; from $59. It includes up to 5 staff members, core features, all integrations, unlimited locations, pay-as-you-grow pricing and priority support. It fits a growing studio needing more staff capacity and support.
Growth: 113.75 USD per month, billed USD $113.75 /month at 70 active clients; from $99. It adds unlimited staff to the Team feature set, making it the natural fit for larger operations that need room to expand.

The active-client basis means the monthly cost tracks clients who book during the subscription month, rather than every name on the roster. Solo’s two-staff ceiling and the staff limits on Team are the main plan constraints to weigh; Growth removes the staff cap.

Platforms

Bookamat supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows. Client self-service works in a mobile browser, and the Progressive Web App can optionally be installed on a phone or desktop home screen.

Who it's for

Yoga, Pilates, barre, dance and fitness studios are the clearest audience, alongside independent teachers and multi-location businesses. Solo operators can start on Free or Solo, while studios coordinating several staff or venues have a reason to consider Team or Growth. Businesses outside boutique studio classes, or those whose payment needs do not match the supported regional providers, may be better served elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pro: Scheduling, attendance, waitlists, payments and membership sales sit in one studio-focused service, reducing the need to coordinate these core operations across separate tools.
Pro: Unlimited venues on one subscription and business-wide reporting suit multi-location operators.
Pro: Inactive clients do not count toward monthly pricing, which can keep the billing basis closer to actual booking activity.
Con: Free access is limited to studios with 10 or fewer active clients, so it is a starting option rather than a broad free tier.
Con: SMS may cost separately, and Solo is capped at two staff members; growing studios should account for both before settling on a plan.
Con: Online payment-provider support is region-specific, which may rule Bookamat out for studios operating elsewhere.

Alternatives

Choose PushPress if its free plan’s no-monthly-fee model and stated card and ACH processing fees better match your budget; Bookamat instead emphasizes studio scheduling, memberships and unlimited venues on one subscription.

WellnessLiving is an alternative with a paid Starter plan at 62.00 USD per month billed annually, including one staff member, classes and appointments booking, and client and staff apps; compare it if that package better fits your needs.

Class Manager is worth considering if a free plan with no monthly subscription and a flat service charge for online payments is preferable to Bookamat’s active-client pricing.

Stepsi is another freemium option, with annual plans tied to active-member limits; consider it if that pricing structure better suits your studio.

GymMaster is a paid alternative with a Foundation plan at 89.00 USD per month for 100 current members; it may suit readers comparing a fixed monthly plan against Bookamat’s active-client model.

The Studio Director is an alternative with a free trial and software-only or software-plus-payments plans for studios of 0–100 students.

ClubReady is another paid alternative for readers comparing studio-management software.

Gymdesk offers a free trial and a Gymdesk plan at 75.00 USD per month for up to 50 members; consider it if a member-capped monthly plan better matches your operation.

Verdict

Bookamat is a strong choice for boutique studios and independent teachers who want class scheduling, payments, memberships and client self-service under one roof, especially when they operate across multiple venues. Its active-client pricing and small-studio Free option give operators a clear starting point, but factor in SMS charges and staff limits as the business grows. Look elsewhere if you need payment-provider coverage beyond its supported regions or a broader business platform.
