Overview

Bonro links mobile capture to a browser dashboard for searching receipts, reviewing business trends and preparing tax exports. That end-to-end focus is more useful than a scan-only tool when expenses need to become structured records. It does not file taxes or replace a tax adviser, and it offers no legal or tax advice.

Key features

Capture and editable extraction

OCR runs on-device through Apple Vision on iOS and ML Kit on Android. AI extracts merchant, date, total, VAT and category from receipt text, and each field can be edited. That combination gives users a way to correct extraction errors before relying on a record, but it does not remove the need to check entries.

Receipts can queue locally without a connection and synchronize when connectivity returns. Bonro also accepts forwarded receipts through a private account inbox and parses electronic invoices, reading ZUGFeRD, XRechnung, FatturaPA, Facturae and UBL as structured data. This is a practical advantage for businesses receiving both paper receipts and e-invoices.

Dashboard and exports

The web dashboard brings together KPIs, trends, recoverable VAT, searchable receipts, uploads and tax exports. Export options include DATEV, FEC, Libro de Facturas, Registro IVA Acquisti, Auditfile XAF, HMRC SA103F, Xero and QuickBooks formats. That range is valuable when records need to fit a particular accounting or tax workflow, though it should not be mistaken for tax filing or professional advice.

Privacy and support

Bonro encrypts data in transit with TLS 1.2+ and at rest, limits production access to its founders, and stores receipt data on EU servers in Frankfurt. Users can export or delete their data in the app. Email support usually replies within one working day; Pro adds priority email support for users who want faster attention.

Pricing

The Free plan costs €0 forever and allows 5 receipts per month, with on-device OCR and AI categorization but no export. It is suitable for light use or trying the capture workflow, but the low cap and export restriction make it a poor fit for ongoing bookkeeping.

Starter costs €6.99 per month and raises the allowance to 30 receipts per month. It includes single-country tax export for 1 country and 1 business, making it the more economical paid choice for a solo operator with modest receipt volume and one-country needs. The trade-off is a strict monthly quota and narrower export coverage than Pro.

Pro costs €12.99 per month and includes unlimited receipts, every EU export format, all 10 countries, unlimited businesses and priority email support. Its 14-day free trial lets users assess the broader workflow before paying. Pro is the clearest fit for higher-volume users or those managing multiple businesses or countries; occasional users may not need its expanded allowance.

Bonro is a freemium service with a 14-day trial on Pro. Its published monthly scan limit is 30 per month, matching Starter's stated allowance; users should weigh that alongside the plan-specific receipt quotas before choosing.

Platforms

Bonro is available on Android, iOS and the web. Mobile apps handle capture, while the browser dashboard supports record review, uploads and exports. On-device OCR on both mobile platforms and local offline queuing are useful for expense capture away from reliable connectivity.

Who it's for

Bonro is aimed at working adults, self-employed people and small-business owners, particularly those who need to organize receipts and electronic invoices for EU or UK tax processes. It makes the most sense when editable extraction, multi-format exports or multiple-country support matter. It is not the right tool for someone expecting tax filing, legal guidance or a substitute for an adviser.

Pros and cons

Pros: On-device OCR, editable extracted fields and offline queuing support a capture workflow that remains useful even when connectivity is unreliable.
Pros: Broad tax-format exports and structured e-invoice parsing address varied EU and UK record workflows.
Pros: EU-based storage, encryption, and in-app data export and deletion give users concrete privacy controls.
Cons: The Free plan's 5 receipts per month and lack of exports make it too constrained for regular business expense records.
Cons: Starter's 30-receipt monthly cap and one-country, one-business scope can become limiting as receipt volume or business complexity grows.
Cons: Users must review extracted fields, and Bonro does not file taxes or provide tax or legal advice.

Verdict

Choose Bonro if your business needs mobile receipt capture, editable extraction and tax-format exports across EU or UK workflows. Its broad export support and e-invoice parsing are the main reasons to pick it; look elsewhere if you need tax filing, more than 5 free monthly receipts, or a cheaper plan without Starter's 30-receipt cap.
