Overview

BlueNotary is an on-demand remote online notarization service for individuals, notaries and organizations that need documents handled over live video. It suits users who want notarization plus reusable business workflows, with a free starting point for general notary work.

Its strongest case is repeat or integrated notarization: business tools, API access and webhooks extend beyond a one-off signing. Real estate teams that require eNote creation, eVaulting or MERS eRegistry integration should look elsewhere.

Key features

Customers upload a document, meet a notary in a live video session and download the completed notarized file. That keeps the core transaction remote from submission through delivery. BlueNotary also supports eSignature and hybrid eClosings, though its stated exclusions make it unsuitable for some broader eClosing workflows.

Business accounts can create sessions, invite signers and witnesses, reuse templates, customize customer emails and save contacts. These tools are most useful for organizations handling repeat transactions; they offer less value to someone notarizing a single document. The REST API and webhooks can create sessions, upload documents, invite participants, track status and retrieve completed documents, giving teams a path to connect notarization to existing systems.

Integration options include branded portals and customized workflows. White-label setup requires a custom business email domain, which is a practical prerequisite for organizations seeking a branded customer experience. BlueNotary says signer checks use knowledge-based authentication, government ID profiling and biometric scanning. It states that it is MISMO accredited and SOC 2 certified, with annual third-party audits. Its integrations page says recordings, audit logs and documents are retained for 10 years, and documents are encrypted with X509 PKI.

Pricing

Basic GNW is free and includes unlimited general notary work, an electronic journal, session recordings stored for 10 years and email support. It is a useful no-subscription option for general notary work, but it does not include the loan-signing package benefits of Pro Hybrid or the business account terms.

Pro Hybrid costs $27 / month. It includes unlimited loan signings, unlimited seals, templates, multiple participants and priority chat and email support. Each signing package also carries a $25 service fee, so the monthly price is not the full per-transaction cost. This plan fits notaries focused on loan signings who want the included workflow tools and priority support.

Business Pro Plan costs $47 per seat per month and is oriented toward businesses using their own notary. It includes two free GNW sessions; each additional session costs $10. Additional stamps cost $0, while each additional signer costs $5. The per-seat charge and usage fees matter for teams estimating recurring volume.

Platforms

BlueNotary supports Android, iOS, web and API access. Mobile support is through mobile web, so users seeking a native mobile app experience should account for that distinction.

Who it's for

Independent notaries can start with free general notary work or choose Pro Hybrid for loan signings. Businesses handling repeat sessions may benefit from templates, contact management and participant invitations, while organizations integrating notarization into their own systems can use the API and webhooks. Real estate customers should confirm that RON, eSignature or hybrid eClosing is enough for their workflow; BlueNotary does not provide eNote creation, eVaulting or MERS eRegistry integration.

Pros and cons

Pros: The free Basic GNW plan includes unlimited general notary work and an electronic journal, making it a meaningful starting option for notaries.
Pros: API and webhook functions cover session creation through completed-document retrieval, useful for organizations connecting transactions to other systems.
Pros: Ten-year retention for recordings, audit logs and documents, along with stated signer checks and document encryption, supports organizations with recordkeeping and verification needs.
Cons: Pro Hybrid adds a $25 service fee per signing package on top of its monthly price, which raises the cost of frequent signings.
Cons: Business Pro charges per seat and adds fees for extra GNW sessions and signers, so team usage can affect the overall spend.
Cons: The lack of eNote creation, eVaulting and MERS eRegistry integration rules it out for workflows requiring those capabilities.

Verdict

BlueNotary is a strong fit for independent notaries and businesses that want remote sessions with reusable workflows, integration options or a free general-notary starting plan. Choose it for those capabilities, but look elsewhere if your real estate process depends on eNote creation, eVaulting or MERS eRegistry integration, or if the per-session charges do not suit your signing volume.
