Overview

Carbonfact brings product and organizational emissions work into one platform. Product LCA covers cradle-to-grave assessments across a full catalogue and all 16 PEFCR impact indicators, while Carbon Accounting automates a GHG Protocol inventory for Scopes 1, 2 and 3, including activity-based Scope 3.1. That combination suits businesses trying to understand both product impacts and their wider footprint, rather than teams seeking a narrow carbon calculator.

The data engine draws on more than 150,000 fashion-specific emission factors and fills gaps with automated heuristics and verified supplier data. Carbonfact supports supplier engagement, an audit trail, data collection and emissions factors from both sources, plus API access. Its methodology is stated to align with the GHG Protocol, ISO 14040/14044 and EU PEFCR, with annual peer review by PwC.

Key features

Product assessment and accounting

Full-catalogue LCAs and the 16 PEFCR indicators offer a detailed product-level view; the French Eco-Score is also included in the Product LCA plan. For company accounting, the platform covers Scopes 1 through 3 and activity-based Scope 3.1. This breadth is useful for fashion businesses managing product and operational emissions together, but may be more scope than a small organization needs.

Reporting and reduction scenarios

The Reporting add-on covers Digital Product Passports, CSRD ESRS E1, CDP, Textile Exchange Materials Benchmark and Better Cotton Initiative reporting. The Decarbonization add-on models product and company-wide reduction scenarios, including eco-design and PEF simulations, with target tracking. These tools connect measurement to reporting and planning, though each is an add-on rather than an included core capability.

Connections, security and support

The integrations directory includes more than 58 connections, such as Centric, Retraced, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle NetSuite, SAP, Snowflake, Tableau and Power BI. That range can help teams bring existing systems into the workflow. Carbonfact reports SOC 2 Type II controls, GDPR-aligned security, TLS 1.2 or higher in transit, AES-256 encryption at rest and EU-distributed backups. All plans include onboarding, a dedicated Customer Success Manager, Carbonfact Academy and access to its peer network.

Pricing

Carbonfact has custom pricing for its paid offerings. The free Carbonfact for Suppliers plan provides environmental-data exchange, free LCA verification and supplier-controlled data visibility; it is aimed at suppliers sharing information, not brands seeking the full accounting and reporting platform.

Product LCA includes full-catalogue LCAs, 16 PEFCR indicators, French Eco-Score and PLM, ERP and traceability integrations. Carbon Accounting covers the full Scope 1, 2 and 3 inventory, activity-based Scope 3.1, unlimited representative products and fashion-specific factors. Both are custom-priced, as are the Decarbonization Add-on, Reporting Add-on and Expert Services. The add-ons provide scenario modelling and target tracking, regulatory and industry reporting, and services such as decarbonization strategy, SBTi support, white-glove onboarding, and data verification and cleaning, respectively.

Onboarding and customer-success support come with all plans, but implementation is not immediate: Carbonfact says a first audit-ready GHG Protocol report takes six weeks, while full Product LCA data granularity takes about four months. Those timelines matter for teams with a near-term reporting deadline.

Platforms

Carbonfact is available on web and through an API. The stated integrations and API access make it relevant to teams with existing business and data systems to connect.

Who it's for

Carbonfact is the strongest fit for apparel and footwear businesses that need detailed product LCAs alongside Scope 1–3 accounting, supplier data and formal reporting. Companies planning eco-design or company-wide reductions can add scenario modelling. Suppliers focused on controlled data exchange may find the free supplier plan sufficient; organizations needing only a basic emissions tracker or a fast, low-commitment start are less well matched to the custom-priced platform and lengthy full LCA implementation.

Pros and cons

Pro: Full-catalogue assessments span all 16 PEFCR indicators, giving product teams a broad basis for comparing impacts.
Pro: Fashion-specific factors, verified supplier data and automated gap-filling address the data challenges of apparel and footwear accounting.
Pro: Accounting, reporting and reduction scenarios cover multiple stages of emissions work in one platform.
Con: Paid plan prices are custom, so buyers cannot readily compare costs or determine fit from a published rate.
Con: Full Product LCA implementation takes about four months, which can frustrate teams needing detailed results quickly.
Con: Reporting and decarbonization capabilities are add-ons, so the broader workflow may require several paid components.

Alternatives

Carbon Accounting Software is the broader category guide for comparing options. Choose CarbonTool if a free 30-day trial and a published €2,000-per-year Core plan are more useful than Carbonfact’s custom-priced fashion focus. Greenio is worth considering for a freemium option with a free tier that includes Scope 1–3 tracking and four PDF reports per year, or a Growth plan at 2999.00 INR per month. Persefoni may suit a single user who wants a free self-service plan with unlimited assets and historical reporting years.

CO2 AI is another paid platform with pricing on request and a free 30-day trial. BigMile may suit buyers who need a Premium plan with up to 5 million records and API upload, though it has no free plan. CarbonAnalytics is an alternative for teams seeking a published Starter price of 69.99 GBP per month per business unit, with up to 300 suppliers, one report framework and three users. CarbonChain uses subscription fees set out in the customer’s Order Form or Statement of Work. ACT Group Decarbonization Platform is a web-based alternative.

Verdict

Choose Carbonfact if you run an apparel or footwear business that needs product-level impact assessments and company-wide accounting, with reporting and reduction planning close at hand. Its fashion-specific data and breadth are the central reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if transparent prices, a shorter implementation path or a simpler emissions workflow matter more.
