Overview

BestInterest is a co-parenting app for separated parents who need to coordinate schedules, expenses and communication. It is especially suited to parents managing difficult exchanges, and Solo Mode lets one parent use its tools without the other joining. Its main appeal is pairing practical organization with communication support; the trade-off is that stronger safeguards, reports and call allowances require paid plans.

Key features

Communication and coaching

Message Shield filters harmful language before a recipient reads a message while preserving the original, and Tone Guardian suggests a calmer rewrite of a draft. Both are available on Protect and Protect Plus, so parents who want those protections must move beyond the cheaper tiers. Coaching is less restricted: Free includes three sessions a day, Connect raises that to six, and Protect and Protect Plus make coaching unlimited.

Solo Mode is a practical distinction for parents whose co-parent will not adopt another app: one person can still use coaching, organization and documentation. The app also supports in-app audio and video calls, but outgoing-call limits vary sharply by tier. Connect caps calls at 45 minutes per month and 15 minutes per call; Protect allows 200 minutes monthly and 60 minutes per call. Protect Plus removes the outgoing-minute limit and adds voicemail, recording and transcription for supported calls. That makes it the relevant choice when those calling features matter, but a steep step up if a parent only needs occasional contact.

Organization, records and privacy

A shared custody calendar, schedule changes, tasks and shared child-expense tracking with receipts bring routine coordination into one place. Users can export supported records as CSV. Connect and higher plans add structured PDF Verified Reports, with up to 10 reports a month on Connect and unlimited reports on Protect and Protect Plus. A report is not a guarantee of court admissibility; that depends on the facts and jurisdiction.

Journal entries, Coach conversations and unsent drafts are private from the co-parent, while content becomes shared when sent or deliberately shared. The privacy policy describes administrative, technical and organizational safeguards but does not promise absolute security. It also says the service uses Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics; mobile users can disable usage-data collection in Privacy Options. Google and Meta advertising measurement services are described, and Apple, Google Play or Stripe may process payments. These are relevant considerations for parents handling sensitive family information.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, with no expiration. It includes secure messaging, Solo Mode, three coaching sessions a day, inbound calls, a shared calendar, tasks, expense tracking, a private journal and data exports. It is a substantial starting point for a solo user or a parent with modest needs, but it lacks Message Shield and Tone Guardian, and it does not include outgoing calling or Verified Reports.

Connect costs 9.99 USD per month, billed monthly or $99.99/year, and has a 2-week free trial. It adds six daily coaching sessions, 45 outgoing call minutes a month with a 15-minute per-call cap, up to 10 Verified Reports monthly, Boundary Line and uploads. Choose it for modest call use and a limited volume of formal reports; the report quota and call caps make it a poor fit for frequent use.

Protect costs 14.99 USD per month, billed monthly or $149.99/year, with a 2-week free trial. It adds Message Shield, Tone Guardian, Smart Silence and Emergency Detection, as well as unlimited coaching and Verified Reports. Its 200 outgoing minutes a month and 60-minute per-call limit still matter for regular callers. Protect Plus costs 29.99 USD per month, billed monthly or $299.99/year, also with a 2-week free trial. It adds unlimited outgoing calling, voicemail, and recording and transcription for supported calls, alongside unlimited reports. That premium is most defensible when those call functions are central; otherwise Protect offers the named messaging safeguards at a lower price.

Platforms

BestInterest is available on Android, iOS and the web, giving co-parents using different device types a shared platform option.

Who it's for

BestInterest fits separated parents who want shared scheduling and expense records alongside tools for calmer, more documented communication. Solo Mode makes it a reasonable option when only one parent is willing to participate. Parents who only need basic coordination can start with Free; those who need message filtering, higher coaching volume or formal reports should compare paid tiers carefully. It is less compelling for someone who needs unlimited calls but does not value recording, transcription or voicemail, since those are bundled into the top plan.

Pros and cons

Useful without both parents: Solo Mode provides coaching, organization and documentation for a single user.
Strong range of free basics: Calendar, tasks, expense tracking, journal and CSV exports are included without an expiration.
Focused communication safeguards: Protect adds filtering and draft coaching, while preserving the original filtered message.
Paid usage ceilings: Connect's call and report quotas and Protect's call caps may constrain heavier use.
Top-tier price for call extras: Recording, transcription and unlimited outgoing calls require Protect Plus.
Privacy trade-offs: Analytics and advertising measurement services are part of the described data practices, despite mobile usage-data controls.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see Co-Parenting Apps. AppClose is worth comparing for parents who want a free option or a lower-priced monthly web plan. Beacon Co-Parenting App may suit parents looking for free everyday tools for both parents without a subscription. CoreParent is another freemium option, with plans that include attorney and mediator use as well as expense and court-related limits. Custody X Change offers a limited free version and supports a wider range of platforms, including macOS and Windows. Peaceful CoParenting Messenger may be a better fit for parents prioritizing messaging, attachments and sent-and-seen timestamps, with subscription required for communication limits and PDF reports. Truece is a lower-priced freemium alternative with a basic tier that limits storage, photos and annual reports. CustodyTrac is worth considering for families seeking a free-forever plan with all features and no per-parent fees. Family Focus is another freemium option with a paid premium plan.

Verdict

BestInterest is a strong fit for a co-parent who wants practical coordination tools and a private, individual way to manage communication and records, especially when the other parent may not join. Its best reason to choose is the combination of Solo Mode, organization and tiered communication support. Look elsewhere if your priority is low-cost, high-volume calling or if the app's higher-tier call features are not worth the premium for your needs.
