Overview

AskYourPDF combines document chat and summaries with website agents, PDF form completion, and an API. It suits people who need to work with files as well as build document-based tools into a site or workflow. Its broad set of uses is appealing, but the Free plan’s daily caps make it a constrained way to handle regular document work.

Key features

Document chat lets users question an uploaded PDF or text document to find answers and key insights. That is useful for locating material in a file without reading it end to end, though the Free plan’s 50 daily questions and three conversations limit sustained use.

The website agent can draw on web pages and uploaded PDF, TXT, PPT, PPTX, EPUB, and RTF files; AskYourPDF says it answers only from those sources. It can be embedded with plain HTML, WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Shopify, Squarespace, React, Vue, or Next.js. The source-bound approach is a practical fit for site agents that should stick to supplied material, and the range of integrations accommodates both hosted site builders and custom front ends.

For forms, users can provide a fillable or non-fillable PDF alongside data in another PDF, a text file, or pasted content, and AskYourPDF completes the fields. This can reduce repetitive entry when the source data is already available in one of those formats.

The Chrome extension also works with PDFs opened from Google Drive in Chrome, and the product has Zotero and ChatGPT plugins. Its API supports PDF data extraction, document chatbots, searching and navigating PDF contents, and conversations across multiple documents. Those capabilities make it relevant beyond individual file questions, including for developers building document workflows.

AskYourPDF says it is GDPR compliant and uses encryption and strict data security and privacy standards. It directs account, billing, and document-processing questions to its support team, and sales can discuss plans and demos.

Pricing

AskYourPDF has a Free plan, paid Premium and Pro plans, and separate API and Enterprise options. Premium and Pro display a “Start Free Trial” offer, but no trial duration; that leaves the length of the commitment-free period unclear.

Free: Custom pricing; 100 pages per document, a 15MB upload cap, one document per day, 50 questions per day, and three conversations per day. It is suitable for occasional, small-file questions, but the daily document and conversation limits are restrictive for routine use.
Premium: 11.99 USD per year, billed per month and billed yearly. It allows 2,500 pages per document, 31MB uploads, 50 documents per day, 1,200 questions per day, and 50 conversations per day. Multi-document Knowledge Base chat, summarisation, Chrome extension access, and OCR support are included. This is a substantial capacity increase over Free, though the yearly billing term matters for anyone comparing monthly commitments.
Pro: 14.99 USD per year, billed per month and billed yearly. It raises the caps to 6,000 pages per document, 877MB uploads, 150 documents per day, 100,000 questions per day, and 10,000 conversations per day. It includes Premium’s listed features plus priority support and longer replies. The comparatively small stated price difference from Premium may suit heavy users, but the same yearly billing term applies.
API Free: Custom pricing; 100 messages and 5,000 pages per month. It offers a low-volume starting point for API use, with limited monthly capacity.
API Pro: 49.99 USD per month, billed monthly, for 6,000 messages and 60,000 pages per month. It fits API projects that need a defined monthly allowance without a yearly billing term.
Enterprise: Custom pricing, with unlimited pages per document, a 1431MB upload cap, 1,000 documents per day, and unlimited questions and conversations per day. It is aimed at larger workloads; contact sales for plan questions or demos.
API Enterprise: Custom pricing, with flexible messages per day and high-volume document pages per month. It is the API option for needs beyond the fixed API Pro allowance.

Platforms

AskYourPDF is available on Android, iOS, and the web, with an API and browser extension. The mobile and web options cover individual document work, while the API and website integrations serve teams building the service into other products or sites.

Who it's for

Students, researchers, and professionals can use document chat and summaries to find information in files; businesses can also use website agents and form completion. The API’s stated use cases include education, legal research, finance, technical documentation, healthcare, and customer support. It is less compelling for someone who only needs occasional summarization and has no need for document chat, forms, or integrations.

Pros and cons

Pro: One product covers file questions, website agents, PDF form completion, and API workflows, making it useful where document tasks extend beyond reading.
Pro: Website agents accept several document formats and integrate with both popular site builders and common web frameworks.
Pro: The Free plan provides a way to try document chat, but its file size, per-day document, and conversation caps limit serious ongoing use.
Con: Premium and Pro use yearly billing, despite their prices being expressed per month; readers seeking a monthly commitment should factor that in.
Con: The trial offer gives no stated duration, making it difficult to judge how long users have to evaluate the paid plans before deciding.

Alternatives

For a narrower summarization need, Text Summarization Software is a relevant category to compare; AI PDF Tools and AI PDF Assistants offer broader category comparisons.

Summify is worth considering for iOS or web users seeking analysis with a free tier of five analyses per day, 12 Learn cards per run, a quiz, four core lenses, and up to 10 saved analyses. Kagi Summarize is a paid option across Android, iOS, web, API, and extension, with a trial allowance of 100 searches and 100 AI interactions with standard models. Podwise is a better fit when the material is podcasts: its Standard plan is 9.90 USD per month and includes 20 AI processing credits monthly, podcast Q&A, clips and translation, RSS and audio uploads, and content exports.

Eightify is another paid option for web, iOS, and Android users. Scholarcy may suit readers focused on article summaries and flashcards, with a free tier limited to 10 summaries and one-at-a-time flashcard exports. SMMRY offers web and API access with a free allowance of 10 summaries for texts, articles, and web pages. TLDR This is an option for web and extension users who want unlimited basic summaries plus 10 advanced AI summaries and 10 paraphrases on its free plan. Aginsi offers web, API, and extension access, with its free Margin plan covering 10 monthly summaries of articles and PDFs, key-point highlights, and retained citations.

Verdict

AskYourPDF is a strong fit for people who need more than a summarizer: document chat, source-based website agents, form completion, and API capabilities give it a broad role in document-heavy work. Choose it if those functions and integrations justify the limits and yearly billing on its core paid plans. Look elsewhere if you only need lightweight summaries or require a clearly defined short trial or month-to-month Premium or Pro billing.
