Overview

Keynote provides a broad set of presentation-design and illustration tools, backed by Apple-designed themes. Creating, viewing, editing, and collaborating in real time do not require a subscription, so occasional presenters and teams can work on decks without taking on a recurring fee. The trade-off is that some visual assets and newer features sit behind Apple Creator Studio.

Key features

Keynote can import and edit Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, then export decks to PowerPoint, PDF, HTML, movies, or image files. That range makes it practical for sharing with people who use different presentation formats, though users seeking software available across Android and Windows as a native app may prefer another option.

Presentations can be shared publicly or with selected people through iCloud or Box. Real-time collaboration is part of the free core, and iCloud-shared files can be up to 4 GB. That covers substantial shared decks, while setting a clear ceiling for larger files.

Presenter tools include a customizable display for rehearsal and delivery, plus notes and controls in a separate Mac window during video conferences. Multi-presenter slideshows let presenters take turns controlling a deck. These features suit coordinated talks and remote presentations, with the separate-window controls specifically tied to Mac.

The theme library includes Apple-designed themes and subscriber-only options. Creator Studio subscribers also get Content Hub photos, graphics, illustrations, and curated collections. Apple Intelligence features include Writing Tools and Image Playground; the subscription adds presenter-note generation and slide-layout cleanup. Some Creator Studio features require an Apple Intelligence-capable device, so the upgrade is not equally useful on every supported device.
