Overview

Bigjpg enlarges user-provided images with deep convolutional neural networks, aiming to reduce noise and compression artifacts while bringing out detail and sharpness. It supports photo and artwork styles, with enlargement settings from 2× to 16× and noise reduction from None to Highest. That range is useful for tailoring cleanup to a source image, but the free plan’s 4× ceiling makes it a limited option for ambitious enlargements.

Key features

Batch processing and API

Bigjpg supports batch processing, but the free plan excludes both batch mode and parallel enlarging. Paid members can use the API for image uploads, enlargement, result queries and task retries. Those tools make the service a more practical fit for recurring workflows than for someone who only needs to enlarge an image once in a while.

Privacy and security

Uploaded images are used to provide the requested enhancement and are not publicly displayed. Bigjpg says it deletes them within 24 hours for free accounts and 72 hours for premium accounts, and does not use uploads to train or improve its models without explicit, informed consent. It says communications use TLS 1.2 or higher, stored data and backups are encrypted, and payment cards are handled by PCI DSS-compliant third-party processors rather than stored directly by Bigjpg. The longer deletion window for premium accounts is worth considering when choosing a plan for sensitive material.

Browser and platform support

Bigjpg is available on Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and the web, and provides API access. Users who are not logged in must keep the browser open while an image is processing or the result will be lost; logged-in users can close it because offline enlarging is supported. That distinction matters for long jobs, while the desktop and mobile apps give users options beyond the browser.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and allows 20 pictures per month, slow speed, shared-server processing, uploads up to 5MB and enlargement up to 4×. It includes offline enlarging but no parallel enlarging or batch mode. That is enough for light use, but the upload and scale caps quickly rule it out for larger source files or repeated batch jobs.

Basic costs 6.00 USD per month, billed 2 Months as a one-time payment. It includes 500 pictures per month, 50MB uploads and up to 16× enlargement. It is the lowest-cost paid option for users who need larger files or higher magnification, though its quota and two-month term are less suited to heavier ongoing use.

Standard costs 12.00 USD per month, billed 6 Months as a one-time payment. Its 1,000-picture monthly allowance, 50MB upload limit and 16× maximum make it a better fit for regular workloads than Basic, with a six-month term to account for.

Premium costs 22.00 USD per month, billed 12 Months as a one-time payment. It raises the allowance to 2,000 pictures per month while retaining 50MB uploads and 16× enlargement. This is the plan for sustained, higher-volume work; the year-long term makes it a poor fit for users who need occasional capacity. The listed plan terms are one-time payments, not monthly renewals.

Who it's for

Bigjpg suits artists and photo users who want control over scale and noise reduction, as well as teams or developers with recurring image jobs that can use paid batch processing or the API. The free tier is most appropriate for small, occasional uploads. Users who need high-volume work should compare the paid monthly quotas with their expected workload before committing to a longer plan term.

Pros and cons

Pros: Scale and noise-reduction controls cover both modest cleanup and enlargement up to 16× on paid plans.
Pros: Paid batch processing and API endpoints support repeat workflows rather than only one-off edits.
Pros: Bigjpg states that uploads are not public and are not used for model training without explicit, informed consent.
Cons: Free use is limited to 20 pictures a month, 5MB uploads and 4× enlargement, with no batch or parallel processing.
Cons: Basic, Standard and Premium are paid in one-time blocks of two, six and twelve months respectively, limiting flexibility for short-term needs.
Cons: Logged-out users must keep the browser open during processing or lose the enlarged result.

Alternatives

For an alternative with a free 4× upscale allowance, GPU or CPU support, high-quality filters, batch upscaling and a 16× option, consider Adima Image Upscaler Pro, available on Android and Windows.

Upscal is another free-to-download option for iOS, macOS and Windows; its free plan includes core image and video enhancement, offline processing and no account requirement.

SuperImage offers a free queue of 25 images across Windows, macOS and Android, with a Pro option described as a lifetime license for unlimited queued images and an ad-free experience.

Imglarger is worth considering if a free trial and 100 monthly credits matter more than Bigjpg’s scale range: its free plan handles one image at a time, with a 1024px maximum input side and 2× scaling.

Clipdrop is a broader free image toolset, with an image upscaler capped at 2× and 20 uses per 24 hours alongside tools such as background removal and cleanup.

Cutout.Pro is another freemium option, with a subscription offering 80 credits per month for 5.00 USD per month.

NextGenUp is a free alternative available for Linux, macOS, self-hosted use, web and Windows.

LetsEnhance may suit API users who want a free allowance of 10 credits, with 24-megapixel and 50MB input limits and an 8-megapixel output limit.

Verdict

Bigjpg is a strong fit for artists, photographers and developers who need adjustable AI enlargement and can make use of paid batch processing or API access. Its free plan is useful for small, occasional jobs, but the 4× cap, 5MB uploads and lack of batch mode are significant constraints. Look elsewhere if you need a flexible short-term paid option or want batch processing without upgrading.
