Gua
What it is
Gua is a free, open-source protocol for testing and automating games built with Godot and Unity. It exposes semantic interface state—including IDs, roles, text, hierarchy, bounds, visibility, enabled state, values, focus and selection—so tests and AI agents can query controls and perform actions such as clicking, focusing, setting values, selecting, scrolling and pressing keys. Tests can wait for UI conditions in NUnit, xUnit, MSTest or C++ without fixed sleeps. Visual testing compares PNG screenshots with baselines using thresholds, masks and operating-system or renderer variants. Recording preserves semantic actions, timing, revisions and wait conditions for replay, while diagnostics can include UI trees, diffs, requests, events, logs, screenshots and environment details. Native MCP connects over WebSocket; WebMCP exposes tools in Godot Web Export and Unity WebGL. Documentation covers a Godot 4.7 add-on and Unity 6. The project links to an MIT License.
For and against
For
- Provides semantic game UI automation
- Supports multiple test frameworks
- Includes visual baseline comparisons
- Captures replayable action recordings
- Offers native and WebMCP integrations
Against
- Player mode denies screenshots by default
- WebMCP needs an experimental browser API
- Unity IL2CPP is unsupported
- Unity IMGUI and EditorWindow automation are unsupported
The verdict
Gua offers semantic, visual and recorded testing for Godot and Unity, plus controlled AI-agent connections. Check screenshot, browser-API and Unity desktop limitations against your test setup.
Who it suits
It suits teams testing Godot or Unity games, including AI-assisted development and release-build agents. It targets Windows, Linux and macOS workflows.
