Dota 2 Workshop Tools
What it is
Dota 2 Workshop Tools are free Windows tools for creating custom Dota 2 game modes, known as addons. Creators can write addon scripts that define game rules and design levels with Hammer documentation. The documentation also covers modeling, materials, particles, sounds, and Panorama user interfaces for game modes. Finished custom modes can be uploaded through the Dota 2 client and distributed on Steam’s Dota 2 Workshop page. When players subscribe to an addon, it downloads and receives later updates. Installation uses Dota 2 downloadable content in Steam, followed by choosing “Launch Dota 2 - Tools.” Valve lists the tools as an optional free download included with Dota 2, available only for Windows systems. After a content-system overhaul, the tools support custom game modes only; cosmetic item creators are directed to the Dota 2 Workshop website. Bug reports and questions can be posted to GitHub issues or Workshop Discussions.
