WrapAPI
What it is
WrapAPI builds APIs on top of existing websites through a visual workflow. Its Chrome extension records browser actions and page loads, filters server requests, and turns selected requests into API templates. The Builder extracts data from HTML, JSON, and XML responses, handles multiple layouts and error cases, identifies changing URL or request-body parts as parameters, and defines outputs through selected elements or regular expressions. Users can configure URLs, query strings, POST data, and file uploads, then call published endpoints with ordinary HTTP requests. Supported methods include GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, HEAD, OPTIONS, PATCH, and TRACE. WrapAPI also provides reusable workflows, self-hosted deployment, and a Proxy that records Android app or webview requests, inspects desktop app requests, and replays captures for debugging. The Community plan costs nothing and includes 30,000 API calls monthly, but public APIs must be shared with the community and support has no SLA.
For and against
For
- Visual request capture and data extraction
- Supports HTML, JSON, and XML responses
- Published endpoints use regular HTTP requests
- Self-hosted deployment is available
- Free plan includes 30,000 monthly calls
Against
- Capture extension works only with Chrome
- Community APIs must be publicly shared
- Community support has no SLA
The verdict
WrapAPI provides a visual route from captured requests to callable API endpoints, with extraction and parameter tools. Its Chrome-only capture and public-sharing requirement on the free plan may limit some workflows.
Who it suits
It suits developers and teams turning website or application requests into reusable APIs. Self-hosted and business options address projects needing private or managed deployment.
