RuM

What it is

RuM is a free, open-source desktop application for declarative process mining on Linux, macOS, and Windows. It combines tools for discovering, checking, editing, generating, monitoring, and filtering event processes, and is intended for beginners as well as experienced users. Process discovery uses Declare Miner and MINERful, with results available as Declare diagrams, constraint descriptions, or automata. Conformance checking uses Declare Analyzer and Declare Replayer, with exploration by trace or constraint. The model editor supports Declare constraints with data and time conditions in MP-Declare. Declo accepts natural-language text and speech recognition for defining constraints. RuM can generate XES logs, monitor MP-Declare constraints with Alloy, MobuconLTL, and MobuconLDL, and show whether each constraint is satisfied or violated after events. Filtering includes 17 basic types and 64 predefined LTL patterns through LTL Checker. It runs as a JAR without installation, requires Java 11 JDK and a 1280×720 minimum display, and is self-hosted.

For and against

For

  • Free and open source under GNU GPLv3
  • Supports Linux, macOS, and Windows
  • Offers discovery, conformance, monitoring, and filtering
  • Generates logs in XES format
  • Natural-language and speech constraint entry via Declo

Against

  • Requires Java 11 JDK
  • Minimum screen resolution is 1280×720
  • Some functions need folder write access
  • Declo requires extra configuration

The verdict

RuM brings many Declare-based process-mining tasks into one self-hosted desktop application. Its broad tooling suits users who need discovery, checking, modeling, logs, monitoring, and filtering in one environment.

Who it suits

RuM suits users exploring declarative process mining, including people without prior Declare experience. It fits teams able to run a self-hosted Java application on Linux, macOS, or Windows.
