qEndpoint
What it is
qEndpoint is a free, open-source RDF triple store for hosting and querying linked data. It can operate as a standalone SPARQL endpoint or serve as a dependency in another application. The project includes a graphical interface for writing and running SPARQL queries and a RESTful HTTP API for HTTP queries, with SPARQL 1.1 support. Datasets can be uploaded in RDF4J-supported formats, including RDF/XML, Turtle, N-Triples, N-Quads, JSON-LD, TriG, and TriX. Query results can use JSON, XML, or Binary RDF. Docker images are available for qEndpoint and for a Wikidata index supporting wikidata_truthy and wikidata_all datasets. The Docker setup defaults to 6G memory; large datasets are discouraged below 4G, while Wikidata-all needs at least 10G. Installation options include Scoop, Homebrew, and a CLI ZIP release. It is licensed under GNU GPL v3.
For and against
For
- Free and open-source under GNU GPL v3
- Supports full-text search and GeoSPARQL
- GUI and REST API for SPARQL queries
- Docker images include a Wikidata index
- Supports several RDF upload formats
Against
- Self-hosted deployment requires infrastructure
- Large datasets need substantial memory
- Wikidata-all requires at least 10G memory
- Security is provided without warranty
The verdict
qEndpoint combines RDF storage, SPARQL querying, full-text search, and GeoSPARQL in a self-hosted package. Its Docker and installation options support varied setups, but memory requirements matter for larger datasets.
Who it suits
qEndpoint suits developers and data teams managing RDF datasets, SPARQL queries, or GeoSPARQL workloads in self-hosted environments. It also fits projects integrating with Wikibase or using the listed RDF formats.
