Project IGI Game Converter
What it is
Project IGI Game Converter is a free standalone converter and inspector for Project IGI 1 files, built for modders and researchers who extract, edit and reinject game assets. It handles proprietary textures, meshes, scripts, archives, terrain, fonts, AI graphs, skeletal animations, audio and lightmaps. The graphical interface offers a searchable file tree, 3D model viewer, 2D texture viewer, texture editor, script and hex inspectors and conversion actions. It renders MEF and OBJ models, exports MEF models to OBJ, converts TEX, SPR and PIC images, supports PNG export and resizing, and saves texture edits in the native format. QVM bytecode can be decompiled to QSC and compiled back; DAT mappings can move through JSON and binary DAT or MTP packages. The command-line tool supports scripting, automated builds, batch work and recursive folders. The GUI plays IFF bone animations on textured MEF models. Windows has the default GUI build; macOS offers an Apple Silicon arm64 CLI requiring macOS 12.0 or later. The project uses the MIT License.
For and against
For
- GUI and command-line workflows
- Exports MEF models to OBJ
- Converts textures with PNG export
- Supports batch and recursive processing
- MIT-licensed and free
Against
- Textured models require an active level folder
- macOS release is CLI-focused
- Windows GUI remains the default build
- Focused on Project IGI 1 files
The verdict
Project IGI Game Converter combines asset inspection, format conversion and reinjection workflows for a specific game. Its GUI is extensive, while command-line automation and platform differences shape how it is used.
Who it suits
It suits Project IGI 1 modders and researchers working with proprietary game assets. Command-line and GUI options support both automated batches and visual inspection.
