Peer Global File Service
Peer Software lists its corporate headquarters at 340 N. Westlake Blvd., #155, Westlake Village, California 91362.
What it is
Peer Global File Service, also called PeerGFS, is software for replicating, managing, and synchronizing files among sites, platforms, clouds, and storage systems. It supports active-active sharing by copying file changes in real time between locations, data centers, and cloud availability zones. Distributed file locking is designed to prevent conflicting versions, while delta-level replication transfers changed portions instead of complete files. PeerGFS handles SMB and NFS workloads and lists Windows and Linux file servers, NetApp, Nutanix Files, Dell systems, Amazon S3, Azure Blob, NetApp StorageGRID, and Nutanix Objects among its environments. Microsoft DFS Namespace integration can unify SMB access and support automatic failover and failback. The product describes SSL-encrypted traffic up to AES-256, Active Directory role controls, and monitoring for suspicious file activity. Edge caching is limited to Windows file servers, and NFS supports only replication and synchronization jobs. Pricing is on request; a trial includes a guided proof of concept.
For and against
For
- Real-time active-active file sharing
- Delta replication reduces transferred data
- DFS integration supports failover and failback
- Supports SMB and NFS workloads
- Includes suspicious-activity monitoring
Against
- Pricing is available only on request
- No free plan
- Edge caching supports Windows file servers only
- NFS excludes several workload types
The verdict
PeerGFS combines real-time replication, storage integrations, namespace support, and migration controls for distributed file environments. Review the NFS and edge-caching limits before choosing it.
Who it suits
It suits distributed project teams and enterprise environments using multi-site, multi-platform, or hybrid multi-cloud storage. Linux, Windows, self-hosted, and cloud-connected deployments are covered.
