StoneFly Migrate
Castro Valley, Hayward, California, United States
What it is
StoneFly Migrate moves unstructured NFS and CIFS/SMB data volumes over a LAN or WAN. It supports scheduled migration jobs and real-time replication for CIFS or NFS volumes. Files are divided into smaller data sets, transferred in parallel, and recombined at the destination. Hash checks verify each shard, allowing a corrupted shard to be retransferred without sending the whole file again.
The software analyzes CPU, memory, and network resources and dynamically assigns resources to processes. A centralized console manages jobs and monitors resource use in real time. StoneFly presents it for moving NAS volumes to new appliances, migrating during maintenance, offloading infrequently accessed data to capacity tiers, and syncing critical volumes. The product is free, has no data transfer limit, and is not a free trial. It is delivered as an OVA virtual machine compatible with VMware. For physical NAS to virtual NAS transfers, both appliances must be on the same subnet. File transfers can be encrypted. Technical support and professional services are sold separately.

- Retransfers corrupted shards individually
- No data transfer limit
- Free software, not a trial
- Supports transfer encryption
Against
- Technical support and professional services cost extra
- Physical-to-virtual NAS transfers require the same subnet
- Delivered as a VMware-compatible OVA virtual machine
The verdict
StoneFly Migrate provides scheduled migration and real-time replication with shard-level integrity checks and no transfer limit. Check the subnet requirement for physical-to-virtual NAS transfers and account for support being sold separately.
Who it suits
