What it is
OpenTakeoff measures quantities from building plans through a browser canvas for people and an MCP server for AI agents. Its browser app opens PDF, image and ZIP plan sets, processing them on the device without an account or plan upload. Measurements include square feet, square yards, linear feet and each, as well as waste-adjusted order quantities, supporting-material lists and roll-goods cuts. Exports include CSV, Excel and marked PDFs; the listed formats also include JSON and DXF. The MCP server runs with `npx -y opentakeoff-mcp` and supports Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and other stdio MCP clients. OpenTakeoff is free, open-source under Apache-2.0, and can be self-hosted. One-Click Area is temporarily gated, and the default MCP build lacks room-detection verbs.
