What it is
Google Chat is a messaging and collaboration service included with Google Workspace. It works on the web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, with channels and guest access. Persistent collaboration spaces can hold up to 500,000 members, while Base supports up to 20 users and Business Starter and Standard support up to 300 users. Administrators can set message history on or off by default. Chat connects with Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Meet, and Google Groups, plus services such as Asana, Jira, GitHub, Salesforce, Trello, Workday, and more. Organizations can build custom apps with Chat APIs and Apps Script, and migration from Slack or Teams is supported with interoperability solutions. Business Starter is $7 a month on an annual commitment, billed monthly for a year.
