Feldera

What it is

Feldera is a SQL engine that maintains views as data changes, working alongside a lakehouse or warehouse. Instead of rebuilding a full dataset after each update, it recalculates views in proportion to the change. It supports SQL window functions and recursive queries, with documented inputs such as Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, NATS, PostgreSQL, AWS S3, Delta Lake, and Apache Iceberg. Outputs include Kafka, Delta Lake, PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB, Snowflake, and Iceberg; some output connectors are experimental. The free open-source edition costs nothing and supports a single node in one container, full SQL, all connectors, datasets larger than memory, and community support through Slack. Docker supports local development, testing, and prototyping, and a free online sandbox is available. Enterprise deployment runs on a customer-provided cloud or Kubernetes cluster and adds multi-node operation, fault tolerance, resource isolation, and dedicated support. Enterprise pricing is custom; pipeline scale-out is listed as coming soon.

For and against

For

  • Free edition includes full SQL support and all connectors.
  • Incremental updates scale with the amount of change.
  • Supports window functions and recursive SQL queries.
  • Enterprise data stays on customer premises.
  • SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 compliance listed.

Against

  • Some output connectors are experimental.
  • Enterprise pricing is custom and not listed.
  • Pipeline scale-out is listed as coming soon.

The verdict

Feldera centers on incremental SQL view maintenance, with a free single-node edition and an enterprise option for customer-hosted clusters. Check connector status and deployment requirements before choosing a plan.

Who it suits

Feldera suits teams that need to keep SQL views current as source data changes, including those working on real-time medallion architectures, fraud detection feature engineering, or fine-grained authorization. Its free edition may fit single-node projects, while the enterprise offering is aimed at deployments needing multi-node clusters and dedicated support.
