ErdDocs
What it is
ErdDocs is a browser-based tool that turns relational database schemas into interactive entity-relationship diagrams and printable data dictionaries. It reads PostgreSQL and MySQL dumps, Prisma, DBML, Mermaid, PlantUML, Django, SQLAlchemy, Sequelize, TypeORM, and Laravel migrations. Parsing and rendering happen in the browser, and the schema is not uploaded. Users can drag, focus, or hide tables and share a diagram link. Exports include PNG, SVG, Mermaid, DBML, PlantUML, SQL DDL, and a printable dictionary; Mermaid suits GitHub diagrams and DBML opens in dbdiagram.io. ErdDocs does not connect to a live database, so users export and paste schemas themselves. The free plan draws up to 25 tables in full, previews a three-table dictionary, and adds branding to exports. A lifetime license costs $9, paid once, with no renewal, any schema size, a complete dictionary, unbranded exports, and activation in any browser. Local license verification allows offline use. Purchases can be refunded within 14 days.
For and against
For
- Parses many database and modeling formats
- Runs parsing and rendering in the browser
- Exports diagrams and printable dictionaries
- Lifetime license has no renewal
- Supports offline use after local activation
Against
- Free tier fully draws only 25 tables
- Free dictionary is limited to three tables
- Free exports carry ErdDocs branding
- Does not connect to live databases
The verdict
ErdDocs combines broad schema input support with local processing and multiple export formats. The free tier is constrained for larger documentation jobs, while the one-time license removes those limits.
Who it suits
It suits developers, data teams, and consultants documenting relational schemas for onboarding, audits, or client handover. It also fits users who want local browser parsing rather than uploading schemas.
