CloudQuery
What it is
CloudQuery is an open-source context engine for collecting and querying cloud infrastructure data. It syncs information from more than 80 sources and maps it into a normalized relational schema that can be queried with standard SQL. Sources include AWS, GCP, Azure, GitHub, and Okta; destinations include Postgres, BigQuery, Snowflake, and S3. CloudQuery Platform supports more than 70 integrations and processes synced data into a built-in ClickHouse database for inventory, SQL Console, policies, and reports. Its MCP server can operate in PostgreSQL or Snowflake mode, allowing AI agents and internal systems to query synced data without a Platform subscription. Users can run CloudQuery on infrastructure they control, with data staying within their network unless configured otherwise. Syncs are defined in version-controlled YAML and can be reviewed through pull requests; SDKs in Go, Python, JavaScript, and Java can be used to create unsupported integrations. The Free plan is free, billed Forever, and has a 1M-row limitation. Pricing is based on yearly synced rows, counting each record each time it is synced. CloudQuery recommends read-only integration credentials and securing the machine that holds cloud infrastructure credentials.
For and against
For
- Syncs data from more than 80 sources.
- Supports standard SQL queries on normalized data.
- Offers an MCP server without a Platform subscription.
- Sync configuration can be version-controlled in YAML.
- CLI is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Against
- Free plan has a 1M-row limitation.
- Billing counts each record every time it syncs.
- Users must secure machines containing cloud credentials.
The verdict
CloudQuery provides a way to consolidate infrastructure data for SQL querying, with self-hosting and multiple sync destinations. Review the free plan's row limit and the yearly synced-row billing basis before choosing a plan.
Who it suits
CloudQuery suits teams that want to sync infrastructure data into a relational format for SQL queries, inventory, policies, or reports. Its self-hosting and version-controlled configuration may suit teams managing their own cloud data pipelines.
