WhatFPS Benchmark
What it is
WhatFPS Benchmark is a free Windows 10/11 application for measuring gaming-computer performance. It tests GPU, CPU, RAM, and disk behavior across DX11, DX12, DX12 Ultimate, and Vulkan workloads. GPU checks use three 3D scenes plus a stress test for compute, memory bandwidth, textures, and fill rate. CPU tests cover floating-point, integer, SIMD/AVX, single-thread work, cache latency, and DX11 draw calls. RAM measurements include read, write, triad bandwidth, and DRAM latency; disk checks include sequential reads, 4K random IOPS, and p99 latency. Results appear on a public percentile leaderboard. Runs are signed and server-checked, with unverified results excluded. The app collects hardware details and test-time temperatures and clocks, but not files, browsing history, or other processes. Installation is through the Microsoft Store, with automatic updates.
For and against
For
- Measures GPU, CPU, RAM, and disk performance
- Runs DX11, DX12, and Vulkan tests
- Public leaderboard provides percentile comparisons
- Unverified runs are excluded
- No account required
Against
- Does not support Mac or Linux
- Processors without AVX2 cannot run it
- Some weaker systems may freeze during 4K scenes
- Scores and methodology may change during beta
The verdict
WhatFPS Benchmark offers broad component testing and public comparisons at no cost. Hardware and platform requirements should be checked first, especially for systems without AVX2 or with weaker graphics capability.
Who it suits
It is for gamers who want to compare gaming-PC hardware performance. Windows users with AVX2-capable processors can use its benchmark and leaderboard.
