Voltage Modular
What it is
Voltage Modular is a virtual modular synthesis platform for building and playing synthesizer patches. Its patching tools support unlimited cables per jack and patch variations, cable buses, and optional automatic module alignment. Audio processing uses 64-bit double-precision math, with module processes operating on individual samples at zero latency. The I/O Panel records the main left and right outputs as 32-bit floating-point audio files. An in-app browser lets users purchase and install modules and sound presets.
The software runs standalone on macOS and Windows, supports MIDI controllers, and lets users choose audio inputs and outputs. It also works as a plug-in: macOS supports AU, VST2, VST3, and Pro Tools AAX; Windows supports VST2, VST3, and Pro Tools AAX. Voltage Modular Software and Nucleus are free. Ignite costs $15, paid once, and Core + Electro Drums costs $29, paid once. The free 30-day trial otherwise allows unlimited use but periodically plays white noise. Activation requires a Cherry Audio account and an internet connection; after installation, the software can be used offline. A license covers up to four computers, managed through the user's account.
