Vectorization.org
Laure Minervois, France
What it is
Vectorization.org converts raster images into scalable vector files through a web service that requires no registration. Users choose an output format, upload an image, and save the result. Accepted inputs are JPG, PNG, PDF, and JPEG; output options are SVG, EPS, PS, PDF, and DXF. The free plan costs nothing and accepts files up to 10 MB, with image dimensions capped at 3000 × 3000 pixels. The service does not support batch conversion, and its monochrome tracing converts color images to black and white. The site identifies Potrace from Peter Selinger as its background autotracer. Submitted files and converted results are automatically deleted after half an hour, with no backups. Its privacy policy says only Maklabu GmbH employees can access files and that they do not inspect them or mine data from them. The site logs IP address, access date, and access type for less than a week, usually no more than three days, and says it does not use an analytics system. Google AdSense may use cookies and web beacons and send usage information, including IP address, to Google.
For and against
For
- No registration is required.
- Supports five listed vector output formats.
- Files and results are deleted after half an hour.
- Free plan accepts files up to 10 MB.
Against
- Color images are converted to black and white.
- Batch conversion is not available.
- Images cannot exceed 3000 × 3000 pixels.
- Google AdSense may use cookies and web beacons.
The verdict
Vectorization.org offers a direct route from supported raster formats to several vector outputs. Its key constraints are monochrome tracing, file-size and dimension caps, and no batch conversion.
Who it suits
This service may suit someone who needs a simple web-based conversion from a supported raster image to a monochrome vector file. It is less suited to color tracing or batch workflows.
