Uthana
What it is
Uthana provides motion models, data, and embodiment tools for robots, simulations, and 3D characters. It generates editable movement from text or video, including full-body skeletal motion with finger movement from ordinary video. Controllable locomotion can be retargeted across bipedal skeletons, and human motion can be adapted to a target humanoid robot representation. That robot output does not include a complete control policy or dynamics model and does not guarantee hardware execution. Self-serve exports include FBX, GLB, and BVH, with FBX presets for Unreal Engine 5 and Roblox Studio. Uthana offers a GraphQL API plus Blender and Maya plugins. Blender requires version 4.0 or newer, an account, API key, and internet connection; Maya requires version 2023 or newer, Python 3.9 or newer, and its FBX plugin. Paid usage includes commercial output use under the Terms of Use. New subscriptions stopped in August 2026.
For and against
For
- Text-to-motion and video-to-motion
- Finger movement in video conversion
- FBX, GLB, and BVH exports
- GraphQL API and public plugins
- Commercial use of generated outputs
Against
- New subscriptions stopped in August 2026
- Robot retargeting is not a complete control policy
- Blender plugin requires an internet connection
- Maya plugin has version requirements
The verdict
Uthana covers motion generation, retargeting, rigging, and character workflows across common 3D tools. Robot users should treat retargeted output as motion data rather than guaranteed executable control.
Who it suits
It serves robotics and AI labs, simulation teams, game and 3D studios, developers, and individual creators. It fits workflows using Blender, Maya, Unity, or Unreal Engine.
