What it is
TDengine is an industrial data platform combining data ingestion, storage, analytics, modeling, visualization, and AI applications. Its two core components are TDengine TSDB and TDengine IDMP. TSDB is a distributed time-series database with caching, stream processing, and data subscription. The platform connects to industrial sources including OPC, MQTT, and Kafka, with built-in ETL for cleaning and transforming data. It provides a REST API described by OpenAPI, plus JDBC, ODBC, Kafka, MQTT, iframe embedding, and an Excel Add-In. Listed integrations include tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Power BI, Tableau, Spark, Node-RED, and Ignition. Self-hosted installations can run at the edge, in containers or virtual machines, on local servers, or across public, private, and hybrid clouds. TDengine Cloud is a managed service on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. The TSDB-OSS edition is open source under AGPL and includes clustering. The free self-hosted tier covers up to 5,000 tags; Starter is $970 a month for a managed cloud service. A 7,500-tag self-hosted annual license is $12,500 a year, while the perpetual license is $31,250, paid once. The maker claims its architecture exceeds general-purpose databases by more than 10 times in write and query performance while reducing storage costs to one tenth.
