Schemity
What it is
Schemity is database design software that reads live databases and previews the effects of schema changes before they run. It displays proposed migrations, but applies them only after the user selects Migrate. Supported databases are PostgreSQL, Supabase, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, and SQLite. Design tools include ERD creation, inferred relationships, SQL and DBML import, check constraints, junction table generation, and schema linting across 26 problem classes. Its local MCP server offers 16 tools and works with Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex, OpenCode, and other MCP hosts. The desktop app stores projects as plain JSON files on the user's machine, suitable for Git version control. It has no cloud backend, accounts, analytics, or telemetry, but sends an automatically generated machine ID and country code for license verification. A two-week desktop trial unlocks every feature without requiring a credit card. After the trial, offline design remains available, while live database features and Context Views pause until a license is active. Lite offers free browser-based design and link sharing; a License costs $129 one-time.
For and against
For
- Previews migration effects before changes run.
- Supports six listed database systems.
- Desktop projects are plain JSON files.
- Two-week trial unlocks all features without a credit card.
Against
- Live database features pause after trial without a license.
- Context Views also pause after trial without a license.
- License costs $129 one-time.
The verdict
Schemity combines schema design with review before migration, and keeps desktop project files local. Its trial provides all features for two weeks, after which live features require an active license.
Who it suits
Schemity suits software engineers designing and maintaining database schemas. Its local MCP server is relevant to users of the listed MCP hosts.
