ReconstructMe

Steyr-Gleink, Austria

What it is

ReconstructMe is Windows software for real-time 3D scanning and reconstruction. Move a supported sensor around an object to digitize it, from a human face to an entire room. Scans use metric units and can be exported as STL, OBJ, 3DS, or PLY files. Color is captured and processed when the sensor supplies a color stream. Listed sensor families include ASUS Xtion, PrimeSense Carmine, and Microsoft Kinect, with additional inputs such as Intel RealSense R200 and F200, Orbbec Astra and Astra L, and ASUS Xtion Pro and Xtio. The free scanning application is for non-commercial use. Its C-style SDK supports real-time and multi-sensor reconstruction, OpenCL GPU scanning, mesh noise removal, hole closing, triangle reduction, and CSG operations. Marker detection and tracking can identify real-world positions or place a scan volume relative to a room marker. Unlicensed SDK scans and saved meshes contain watermarks, with mesh generation delayed by a few seconds. A recent graphics card and driver are required for hardware-accelerated real-time computing. The company is headquartered in Steyr-Gleink, Austria.

For and against

For

  • Scans objects from faces to entire rooms
  • Exports STL, OBJ, 3DS, and PLY
  • Supports color capture with suitable sensors
  • SDK includes mesh processing tools
  • Free non-commercial scanning application

Against

  • Windows only
  • Recent graphics card and driver required
  • Unlicensed SDK adds watermarks
  • Unlicensed mesh generation is delayed

The verdict

ReconstructMe combines a free non-commercial scanner with an SDK for broader reconstruction workflows. Check sensor compatibility and licensing limits before choosing it for commercial or developer use.

Who it suits

It suits Windows users who need to scan objects or spaces into editable 3D meshes. Developers can use the SDK for real-time, multi-sensor applications.
