Ravion
What it is
Ravion is a framework and governed execution layer for internal developer platforms. It lets developers and AI agents provision, deploy, and operate applications in a customer’s AWS account. Platform teams can turn existing Terraform into reusable modules with typed inputs, which developers use through forms. Each module instance is tracked as a stack with reviewable plans, approval gates, managed state, and versioned resource history.
Ravion supports deployments for containers, Lambdas, and static sites, including rollbacks and deployment visibility. It works with Terraform providers, AWS CloudWatch logs and metrics, Systems Manager Parameter Store and Secrets Manager, and external CI through its API and CLI. The maker says it uses short-lived credentials through AWS STS and OIDC rather than requesting or storing AWS access keys. Infrastructure and related application and pipeline data remain in the customer’s AWS account. AI agents can propose configuration changes and inspect dry-run differences, but plans, policies, and approvals govern changes. AWS is supported today; Cloudflare, GCP, and Azure support is planned.
For and against
For
- Terraform modules use typed inputs.
- Stacks include plans, approvals, and managed state.
- Supports containers, Lambdas, and static-site deployments.
- Customer infrastructure and related data stay in its AWS account.
Against
- AWS is the only supported cloud today.
- Kubernetes support is marked coming soon.
- RBAC, cost tracking, and notifications are marked coming soon.
The verdict
Ravion brings reusable Terraform modules, governed infrastructure changes, and application deployments into an AWS-focused platform. Teams should account for its current AWS-only support and the listed capabilities that are still coming soon.
Who it suits
Ravion may suit platform teams that want developers or AI agents to provision AWS infrastructure through governed Terraform modules. Its deployment and integrations may fit teams using containers, Lambdas, or static sites.
