Open Prompter
United States
What it is
Open Prompter is an iOS teleprompter that displays scripts from Markdown files in a folder you select. It opens .md and .markdown files, lets you edit them, and can save changes back on your device. Choose a location the Files app can access, such as iCloud Drive, an Obsidian vault, or Dropbox. As you read, the front camera can record a take beside its script, while on-device speech recognition follows your words; the audio stays on your phone. Recordings can include QuickTime chapter and Adobe XMP marker tracks, which Premiere Pro reads as timeline markers. Open Prompter is free at no cost, with no subscription or in-app purchases, and requires iOS 17 or later. Its source code is available under the MIT License. The maker says the app has no account, server component, or network functionality of its own and does not see, store, or transmit your files. Bug reports and feature requests go through a public GitHub issue tracker. It reads scripts but does not generate them.

The verdict
Open Prompter combines Markdown script reading, voice tracking, and front-camera recording in one free iOS app. Its main limitation is that scripts must already exist: it does not create them.
Who it suits
It suits iPhone and iPad users who want to read and record existing Markdown scripts. It may also fit users who keep scripts in Files-accessible locations and use Premiere Pro marker tracks.
