Odigos
What it is
Odigos is self-hosted software for examining live runtime activity inside services. It records production behavior for engineers, AI agents, and security teams without requiring application-code changes. Captured signals include traces, metrics, logs, profiles, and function values, including evidence that might otherwise wait for an instrumentation release or redeployment. Its out-of-process eBPF capture is stated to use under 1% CPU and add effectively zero latency. RBAC and policy controls determine who can request captures, which workloads are covered, and what data may be collected. PII masking, attribute deletion, and sampling can shape values before export. Odigos sends data as OpenTelemetry and can operate alongside Datadog, New Relic, Honeycomb, Grafana Cloud, Jaeger, Tempo, Loki, and SigNoz. It supports Go, Java, Python, .NET, JavaScript, PHP, and Ruby, with deployment on Kubernetes, VMs, and bare metal. The open-source plan is free; Enterprise pricing is custom and includes a 14-day free trial.
For and against
For
- Captures traces, metrics, logs, profiles, and function values
- No instrumentation release or redeploy required
- Out-of-process capture uses under 1% CPU
- Exports through OpenTelemetry
- Free open-source plan available
Against
- Self-hosted deployment is required
- Oracle database tracing is marked Coming Soon
- Enterprise support differs from community support
The verdict
Odigos combines runtime capture, policy controls, data shaping, and OpenTelemetry export in a self-hosted package. Its free open-source plan provides a starting point, while Enterprise adds multi-cluster administration, database tracing, and premium support at custom pricing.
Who it suits
Odigos suits engineers, AI agents, and security teams investigating production behavior, containing attacks, or improving code. It fits organizations using Kubernetes, virtual machines, or bare metal with supported languages.
