MinecraftDome
What it is
MinecraftDome is a free, open-source web app for designing dome shapes and producing Minecraft construction plans. You can draw connected square-mesh surfaces as circles, rectangles, diamonds, ellipses, or hyperellipses, then add anchors that constrain the surface. Anchors in a layer are treated as points on a plane defined by three points. Shape calculations include parabolic, catenary, and roof loads; setting a load to zero creates a soap-bubble effect. The display can show ideal blocks, line grids, or Minecraft blocks, with an option requiring neighboring blocks to meet by a face. The app outputs fixed-width plain-text plans for copying, pasting, or printing. Plans mark X and Z every 16 blocks and Y every 8 blocks, with offsets for chunk-boundary lines. The documented version has no save, restore, or undo. Catenary calculations may run to infinity, so the instructions advise keeping the reset button nearby.
For and against
For
- Free web app with open license
- Supports several geometric surface shapes
- Provides 3D preview and block views
- Outputs fixed-width coordinate plans
- Includes chunk-alignment markings
Against
- No save, restore, or undo
- Catenary calculations can run indefinitely
- Results may vary by browser and device
- Optional PayPal donations are suggested
The verdict
MinecraftDome offers detailed dome geometry controls and plain-text construction output in a browser. The lack of project recovery tools and the warning about catenary calculations should shape how you work.
Who it suits
Minecraft builders who want geometric dome layouts and printable text plans may find MinecraftDome useful. It is suited to web users comfortable managing designs without save or undo controls.
