Meta XR Audio SDK
What it is
Meta XR Audio SDK is a free development SDK for adding spatial audio to immersive applications. Its capabilities include HRTF rendering, ambisonic playback, and room acoustics. Object and ambisonic spatialization is designed to help listeners locate sound sources in three-dimensional space, while simulated reflections and reverberation provide room acoustics for spatialized audio.
Meta documents integrations for Unity, Unreal Engine, FMOD, and Wwise, with Windows and Android runtime support. Development targets listed by Meta include PCVR and Quest, Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, and Quest 3S. The Unreal plugin works with the Unreal Audio Engine independently of the Meta XR Plugin, and Unity packages are available through the Meta Horizon Developer Center and Unity Asset Store. Version 85.0 is the final release, and the SDK is feature-frozen with no further updates planned. Compatibility with future engine and middleware versions is not guaranteed, and bug reports may be acknowledged without fixes being assured.
For and against
