What it is
Matecat is an online computer-assisted translation tool for translators, language service providers, companies, and enterprise users. It is free and open source, with document and website translation, translation memories, and glossary tools. Translation memories and machine-translation matches can reduce the text translators need to translate; adaptive machine translation from ModernMT is available in more than 200 languages.
Teams can assign jobs, mention colleagues in comments, work together in real time, and split projects among translators. Matecat states support for 80 file formats, while its hosted service handles XLIFF out of the box and may need Matecat Filters for other formats. REST APIs support project creation and status checks, with credentials obtained by contacting support and describing their intended use. The open-source server can be self-hosted. For hosted use, Matecat says browser-to-server communications use SSL, originals and translations are stored long term, and public segments may be used to provide matches to others.
