Leo Editor
What it is
Leo Editor is free, open-source software for organizing code, writing, and research in programmable outlines. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux and supports Markdown, backlinks, clickable links, and navigation actions such as expanding, collapsing, hoisting, dehoisting, promoting, and demoting. Cloned nodes let one idea appear in multiple outline locations while remaining synchronized. Python scripts, commands, and plugins can shape workflows. Outlines can be exported to HTML, MORE, Markdown, Org mode, reStructuredText, and Vim outline formats. @jupytext nodes connect notebook cells with outline nodes and can write changes back to .ipynb files. The leoBridge module lets Python host programs access Leo sources, files, and commanders. A WebSocket server accepts JSON requests from clients in different languages; password challenge-response authentication is required, while TLS is optional. Leo uses the MIT license, permitting commercial use, modification, distribution, and resale.
