Leica Cyclone 3DR
What it is
Leica Cyclone 3DR is Windows desktop software for turning point cloud data into 3D models and other deliverables. It supports workflows for inspection, modelling and meshing, with data-cleaning tools and AI classification to help process point clouds. Users can create 2D and 3D models, meshes and textures, inspect reality-capture data, and generate reports. Scan2Verify creates prefilled QA/QC reports from scan data, and scripting can automate processing tasks. PRO Edition packages include specialised tools for AEC, Survey and Plant work. The software connects with Cyclone FIELD 360, Cyclone REGISTER 360 PLUS, Hexagon GeoCloud and downstream products such as CloudWorx. Listed formats include LGS/LGSx, E57, LAS/LAZ, IFC, RVT, FBX, DWG and DXF, though some depend on the license. The 2024.0 release notes specify 64-bit Windows 10 (Build 1809) or Windows 11. Leica recommends at least 16 GB RAM for regular desktop use, and 32 GB plus a supported NVIDIA GPU for auto-classification. A separate Free Viewer handles viewing and basic inspection tasks without using a full Cyclone 3DR license.
For and against
For
- AI classification and automated point-cloud processing
- Tools for inspection, modelling, meshing and reporting
- Supports E57 and LAS/LAZ formats
- Free Viewer offers measurements and basic inspection editing
Against
- Available for Windows desktop only
- Some file formats depend on license
- Auto-classification recommends 32 GB RAM and supported NVIDIA GPU
- Cyclone CLM licensing must be installed to launch
The verdict
Cyclone 3DR combines point-cloud preparation, inspection and modelling tools in a Windows desktop workflow. Check license-dependent formats and hardware requirements against the work you need to do.
Who it suits
It suits professionals working with point cloud data in AEC, surveying or plant industries who need inspection, modelling, meshing and reporting tools. The companion Free Viewer may suit people who need viewing and basic inspection capabilities without a full Cyclone 3DR license.
