LANState
What it is
LANState is Windows software for mapping a local network, monitoring hosts and services, and managing devices from a graphical map. It scans for device types and addresses; when managed switches support SNMP, it can discover topology and draw links. Administrators can use the map to retrieve remote Registry, Event Log, process and service information, then take actions such as rebooting computers or restarting services.
Alerts can flag network problems, low disk space and stopped services through email, SMS using a connected modem or phone, sound, or on-screen messages. LANState accumulates monitoring statistics and can produce reports and charts of monitored changes and response times. The free use limit is 25 hosts across all maps, while the 30-day trial permits up to 50. LANState Pro adds remote web access, Microsoft Visio export, advanced SNMP functions, traps, Syslog monitoring and monitoring reports. A one-time LANState license for 50 hosts costs $99.95, paid once. The software requires a user logon to operate and supports listed Windows desktop and server versions.
