Friture
What it is
Friture is a free, open-source real-time audio analyzer for examining audio signals and room or receiver behavior. Its views include a spectrum analyzer, rolling 2D spectrogram, fraction-of-octave analyzer, scope, pitch tracker, delay estimator, and level display. The spectrum view shows frequency components, recent peaks, and the global maximum frequency, with configurable response time. Delay estimation uses cross-correlation between two input channels and works only in two-channel mode. The level view reports peak and RMS power in dBFS using 25 ms and 300 ms response times. A signal generator produces sine, pink-noise, white-noise, sweep, and burst signals. Downloads are available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, including a Windows Microsoft Store option and Linux AppImage. Friture uses GPLv3+ licensing and does not collect microphone or personal data.
For and against

- Windows, macOS, and Linux versions
- No microphone or personal-data collection
Against
- Delay estimator requires two-channel mode
- Documentation is currently limited
- Windows installer is unsigned
- macOS app is not notarized
The verdict
Friture offers broad real-time audio analysis and signal-generation tools without a license fee. Installation safeguards and limited documentation may require extra attention.
