What it is
FreeCAD is a free, open-source parametric 3D modeler for product design, mechanical engineering, architecture, and technical work. Designs can be revised by changing parameters or returning through model history. Users can sketch constrained 2D shapes, create 3D models, and produce production-ready drawings. Features include animation, finite-element analysis tools, experimental computational fluid dynamics, and robot simulation. FreeCAD reads and writes open formats such as STEP, IGES, STL, SVG, DXF, OBJ, IFC, and DAE. It runs as desktop software on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Add-ons and workbenches provide customization and extension. Documentation, tutorials, FAQs, forums, chat, and community channels are available. The project is supported by the FreeCAD Team, the FPA, KiCad Services Corp., and other sponsors. There are no licensing fees, and listed free access has no sign-up, paywall, or restrictions.
