Free Enterprise
What it is
Free Enterprise is a free, open-source open-world ROM hack and scavenger-hunt randomizer for Final Fantasy IV on the SNES. Players begin with the airship, can complete available quests in any order, and use the Pass to open a route in Toroia directly to Zeromus. Randomization can alter key items, characters, treasures, shops, and other elements, with logic randomization and advanced customization. The online randomizer lets players choose a preset, generate a seed, and patch their own ROM for an emulator or flash cart. Playing requires the user’s own Final Fantasy II US v1.1 ROM; the project does not provide that file. Revised NPC dialogue offers tips, and a Baron Town training room summarizes the changes. Custom MSU-1 soundtracks are supported, but fade-in and fade-out are not. Developers can read memory values for found or used key items, checked locations, and completed objectives to build trackers. Programmatic seed generation requires an API key and is limited to developers making support software for community races. Documentation, guides, race information, and help are available through the wiki and Discord.
