electron-builder
What it is
electron-builder is a free, open-source tool for packaging Electron apps for macOS, Windows and Linux. It creates installers, portable builds and distribution archives, with targets that include DMG, PKG, AppImage, DEB, RPM, NSIS, MSI and ZIP. Its electron-updater package supports differential updates, staged rollouts and providers such as GitHub Releases, Amazon S3, DigitalOcean Spaces, Cloudflare R2, Keygen and generic HTTP(S) servers. Update manifests can optionally use Ed25519 signatures checked against a public key embedded in the app. With signing credentials configured, electron-builder supports macOS notarization and Windows Authenticode signing. ASAR integrity hashes are enabled by default, and Electron Fuses can disable selected features at package time. Documentation includes GitHub Actions guidance for building and publishing. In version 27, publishing requires an explicit CLI flag or configuration choice. Build environments also matter: macOS signing must be done on macOS, and native dependencies generally need to be compiled for the target platform unless prebuilt binaries are used. The project directs community questions to GitHub Issues and package resources to npm.
