eFileIL
What it is
eFileIL is Illinois’ centralized web service for moving court filings between filers, clerks, court staff, and judges. A filer submits documents through a certified Electronic Filing Service Provider (EFSP), which sends them through eFileIL to a participating court and its case-management system. Attorneys and people representing themselves can use an EFSP, but registration is required first. Electronic filing is mandatory for civil cases in the Illinois Supreme, Appellate, and Circuit Courts. Coverage includes the Illinois Supreme Court, every appellate district, and 94 trial courts. The service provides filing-status tracking and eService, which can email documents to other parties and track receipt and opening. Parties may also exchange documents without filing them. eFileIL is free, although local court filing fees and some EFSP transaction fees vary. It runs in a browser without special software, middleware, or hardware, and is described as available continuously except for maintenance. Published limits include 25 MB per trial-court document and 50 MB per envelope.
