DRevitalize
What it is
DRevitalize is Windows software for diagnosing and repairing physical damage to magnetic media, including hard drives and some floppy drives. It attempts to repair bad sectors by generating sequences of high and low signals around damaged areas. The listed current version is v4.10 for Windows and UEFI, and demo downloads are available for Windows, UEFI, and DOS. Its modes include scan-only checks and scan-and-repair read or write tests. Other functions include SMART analysis, raw-data copying, secure erase, Format Unit, ATA security features, and Device Configuration Overlay controls. The software is intended for minor surface damage, typically a few bad sectors, rather than hundreds or thousands. It can check and change SSD parameters, but cannot truly repair a defective SSD sector; it can reallocate that sector. Windows support information says it is designed for Windows 10, while version 4.0 requires at least Windows Vista and .NET Framework 4.6. The UEFI version requires a 64-bit system and recent BIOS. License ordering is no longer available, and the project is on hold.
For and against
For
- Offers scan-only and scan-and-repair tests.
- Includes SMART analysis and raw-data copying.
- Demo downloads are available for Windows, UEFI, and DOS.
- Can perform secure erase and ATA security functions.
Against
- Designed for a few bad sectors, not hundreds or thousands.
- Cannot truly repair defective SSD sectors.
- License ordering is no longer available; project is on hold.
The verdict
DRevitalize combines drive diagnostics with repair attempts and several drive-management functions. Its stated scope is minor magnetic-media surface damage, and new license ordering is unavailable.
Who it suits
DRevitalize may suit Windows users diagnosing magnetic drives with minor surface damage. SSD users should note that it can reallocate a defective sector but cannot truly repair it.
