DeNet Storage
Singapore
What it is
DeNet Storage is decentralized cloud storage for photos, videos, documents, backups, and other files. Files are encrypted on the user's device before upload, then split into fragments distributed across independent storage nodes called Datakeepers. DeNet and the node operators cannot access unencrypted files or decrypt stored content. Mobile apps can automatically back up photos and videos, while desktop apps can back up selected folders. Signing in to the same account on supported devices keeps files synchronized.
Storage is prepaid with a one-time payment rather than a recurring monthly or yearly subscription. The listed starting price is $24.20. GAS consumption depends on how much data is stored and for how long, and the storage period begins with the first upload. If a node goes offline, the protocol creates replacement copies of affected fragments on other nodes. DeNet does not store or recover encryption keys, so losing a key permanently blocks access to files and does not qualify for a refund. The service supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows.
For and against
For
- Files are encrypted on the device before upload.
- Mobile apps can back up photos and videos automatically.
- Desktop apps can back up selected folders.
- Files synchronize across supported mobile and desktop devices.
- No recurring monthly or yearly subscription fees.
Against
- DeNet cannot recover lost encryption keys.
- Lost-key file access does not qualify for a refund.
- Storage consumes GAS according to data amount and duration.
- Minimum storage charge is 100 GB.
The verdict
DeNet Storage pairs device-side encryption with distributed storage and automatic backup options across mobile and desktop platforms. Its prepaid model avoids recurring subscriptions, but users must safeguard their own keys because DeNet cannot recover them.
Who it suits
DeNet Storage suits people who want encrypted file storage with mobile and desktop backup options. It is also relevant to users comfortable managing their own encryption keys and using prepaid storage.
