Connect-rs
What it is
Connect-rs is a native Linux desktop manager for SSH, RDP, VNC, Telnet, SFTP, and local connections in one tabbed window. Its SSH terminal supports VT100 and ANSI behavior, 24-bit colour, scrollback, and broadcasting across tabs. Native RDP includes RemoteFX, NLA/CredSSP, fullscreen, pop-out windows, and direct mouse and keyboard routing. A dual-pane SFTP browser handles recursive transfers and synchronization with a diff preview, while SSH supports local, remote, and dynamic SOCKS forwards. Imports are available for Royal TS, PuTTY, WinSCP, CSV, and Ansible inventories. Connections, credentials, audit logs, and settings remain on the user's machine without an account, sync, or cloud service. Credentials are encrypted at rest, and application data is not sent to a Connect-rs server. The free plan keeps features unlocked and allows five saved non-template connections. Pro costs $39 per user per year with unlimited saved connections and offline activation. Linux downloads include x86_64 and ARM64 builds.
For and against
For
- Supports SSH, RDP, VNC, Telnet, and SFTP
- Tabbed window with dual-pane SFTP
- Local storage without cloud service
- Imports several connection formats
- Free plan keeps all features unlocked
Against
- Linux desktop only
- Free tier allows five saved connections
- Pro costs $39 per user per year
- Windows and macOS are roadmap items
The verdict
Connect-rs concentrates common remote-access protocols, file transfers, tunnels, and imports in a Linux desktop application. Local data storage and a capable free tier are useful, while larger connection libraries require the annual Pro plan.
Who it suits
It suits Linux users who manage several remote protocols and want local storage without a cloud account. The free tier fits smaller connection collections; Pro is for unlimited saved connections.
