Chiasm
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
What it is
Chiasm captures gaze data through participants’ webcams for remote studies and research. It processes webcam frames in real time and returns timestamped gaze coordinates linked to study events, along with session metadata. Researchers can connect it to Qualtrics, jsPsych and custom web studies through a JavaScript library. Chiasm says studies can run with hundreds of participants at once; participants use Google Chrome on a laptop or desktop with a webcam. Researchers can download gaze data or stream it to their own servers. With platforms such as Qualtrics, data is held on Chiasm’s servers for later export. Webcam video is not stored by default, though limited calibration or validation recordings may be kept with explicit opt-in consent. Its privacy statement describes encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access, segregated environments, logging and monitoring. Personal data are primarily processed and stored in the European Economic Area on Google Cloud Platform servers in Europe. Chiasm says it follows GDPR requirements and provides a Data Processing Agreement when acting as processor. Flex costs €0.25 per minute with no monthly minimum; monthly plans start at €199.
