CamillaDSP
What it is
CamillaDSP is free, open-source software for real-time audio processing on Linux, macOS, and Windows. It can create active crossovers, apply room-correction filters, and assemble advanced DSP pipelines. Pipelines use filters and mixers, including IIR biquads and FIR filters processed through FFT/IFFT convolution. Additional processing includes channel mixing, resampling, dynamic loudness, EQ, and delay adjustment. Audio backends include ALSA, PulseAudio, JACK, WASAPI, and CoreAudio. CamillaGUI provides a browser interface served by a local backend for building and editing pipelines, monitoring levels, and applying changes live; it does not require an internet connection. The pyCamillaDSP Python library communicates with a running engine through its WebSocket API, which must be enabled with the -p flag. Licensing is GPL version 3 or Mozilla Public License 2.0, while an ASIO backend build is GPLv3 only. Major releases may require configuration updates; minor releases preserve compatibility.
For and against
For
- Free and open source
- Runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows
- Supports multiple audio backends
- Local browser GUI needs no internet
- Includes Python WebSocket integration
Against
- Major releases may break configurations
- pyCamillaDSP requires WebSocket server enabled
- ASIO backend build is GPLv3 only
- Setup discussion relies on community channels
The verdict
CamillaDSP offers detailed, configurable audio processing with a local web interface and developer API. It fits users comfortable managing pipelines and keeping configurations updated across major releases.
Who it suits
It suits audio users building crossovers, room correction, or custom processing chains on desktop systems. Developers can connect automation scripts or hardware controllers through the WebSocket API.
